Aircraft Egress
Every Gerber product has a story to tell. The story of the LMF II is one of resilience and resourcefulness, of being on the wrong side of sticky situation and living to tell the tale. The purpose driven design of this knife stems from the experience of former military man Jeff Freeman, combining thoughtful design features and life-saving application.
Originally designed to free an aircrew from a downed aircraft, the LMF II is tough enough to cut through the fuselage of an aircraft and smart enough to ensure you are safe while doing so. The knife has a purposeful break between the tang and the butt cap, providing insulated protection against stray wires and absorbing any shock from hammering.
This 10” survival knife was built to adapt to any scenario thrown at it – ensuring comfort, versatility, and safety when you need it most.

This MOLLE-compatible knife is rugged and versatile, with a partially serrated fixed blade that can also serve as a pommel. The sheath includes a built-in blade sharpener and two leg straps for safety and comfort. The LMF II is tough enough to cut through the fuselage of an aircraft and smart enough to ensure you are safe while doing so. Like all Gerber products, this convenient Gerber knife and sheath is backed by the Gerber Guarantee, our limited lifetime warranty.

The Gerber 22-01629 LMF II Black Infantry Knife was designed for survival during even the worst conditions. This 10-inch survival knife was engineered by former military man Jeff Freeman and was field-tested with troops, ensuring that it can stand up to rugged, rigorous use and offer high performance under a variety of emergency conditions.
Strong, Serrated Blade Can Be Used in All SituationsWhether you need to cut firewood, build a shelter, or slice through a seat belt, the LMF II survival knife has you covered. It was designed to adapt to a wide variety of situations, so you'll never have to worry whether you have the right knife.
Unique Buttcap Can Pierce Glass
In addition to the blade end of the knife, Gerber also gave the LMF II a unique, pointed buttcap that is made of stainless steel. This heavy end can be used to pierce glass in the event you need to egress from a helicopter or other vehicle. The buttcap features a smart design that is physically separated from the tang in order to offer shock absorption when it's used as a hammer and also to prevent electrical shock.
Smart, Versatile, Comfortable Design
The LMF II features an overmolded handle, which helps prevent hand blisters and provides a secure grip. It is also designed with lashing holes, allowing it to be converted into a spear and extending its usability. The black color keeps you inconspicuous while you are out on night-time missions.
Sheath Included with Built-In Sharpener
A low-profile sheath is included and it features a built-in carbide sharpener. The stainless steel blade can withstand a ton of abuse, but if it ever gets damaged or needs sharpening, you won't be stuck out in the open with a dull knife. The sheath facilitates movement and attaches to a belt or MOLLE vest.
Gerber's History of Ingenuity
Savvy. Moxie. Craftsmanship. Attention to detail. These are just a few of the company traits that contributed to Gerber's emergence as a world leader in outdoor gear. Joseph Gerber started Portland, Oregon's Gerber Advertising back in 1910, and one Christmas, he hired a local knife-maker to craft 25 sets of kitchen cutlery as client gifts. The knives were so popular, Mr. Gerber ultimately left his agency to launch Gerber Legendary Blades in 1939.
For more than half a century, Gerber Legendary Blades has been helping people fend for themselves. Gerber designs popular, dependable tools and knives along with other outdoor gear that helps users accomplish whatever tasks they may be faced with, promoting the lost art of self-reliance.

To help anyone with a short attention span, heres a quick pro's and con's after using it this weekend:
Pro:
-Sharp out of the box
-Comfortable
-easy/many ways to cary
-Pretty good at throwing sparks
-Good for battoning
-Awesome that it has a built in sharpener
-Easy to lash to make a spear
Definitely snug in the sheath (could possibly be a con)
Con:
-Some may think it is heavy for its size, wasn't a problem for me.
-Part of the handle near the blade got a little beat up from chopping. Kind of expected since it made contact hard with wood.
-Small area for the hammer and kind of awkward to hold while hammering
-(possible) too snug in the sheath. The knife was intended to be able to jump from a plane with it... Many of us won't do that. But the 2 snaps hold it, and even without the snaps on, it stays in place due to the sheath itself being snug.
My weekend with my new knife put it through a few test exercises. It worked great chopping trees and branches to build my shelter, I was actually surprised at how quickly I managed to cut my way through them. Battoning firewood was easy to do and it glided through. The serrated blade may be a downside to some, but it was beneficial for my experience. I managed to light a few fires using the spine of the knife with my fire striker, it throws sparks nicely although it does help to wear down the black coating a little. Ergonomically the knife feels great, it is weighted nicely and I could see it being a good throwing knife as well.
Carry wise I normally had it in hand most of the weekend, the leg straps did not work as well for me, I was wearing rain pants and it didn't stay on too tight. It would be better to use 1 leg strap along with the belt loop in my opinion. The molle attachments I used on my pack and it worked nicely, I used the same attachment today on my camelback, looked clean.
I added about 20ft of Pcord behind the handle on the sheath, as well as attached a fire striker to the front of it. Picture will be up momentarily.
Also: I compared my knife to my buddy's LMF II ASEK that he has, we saw no difference besides color, he had a belt cutter that he doesn't bother bringing anywhere, the ASEK seemed to be a little bit heavier and his Gerber insignia on the blade looked different (the last 2 might have been because his was a year old though)
Hope this helps yall, comment if you need any more information. This is a great knife and will be with me whenever I am doing anything outside.

The LMF II is actually designed to be able to cut through electrical wires without being shocked. This knife actually has a military purpose and history behind it. The story goes that a soldier in Afghanistan actually cut through electrical wire to allow soldiers to proceed behind enemy lines while not getting shocked and being able to infiltrate the enemy's perimeter undetected. That is a pretty impressive story, and I can't think of many knives that can pull off such a task, but the Gerber LMF II did. I have used this knife for a variety of tasks, and I am just super impressed at its ability to chop and cut through very tough objects with ease. People complain about this steel, but if you had seen some of the things that I have cut through with this knife, I don't think many people would be complaining.
Personally, I love the way this knife feels in my hand. This is just one of those knives that has incredible ergonomics, and that is extremely important. Although I am not a big fan of serrations, Gerber does a good job with this knife, and I can tolerate them. Of course, when they get blunt, that is going to be a pain to deal with, but I am not to that point yet.
The sheath is a military design with internal sharpening system for field sharpening. It is a good sheath, but it's heavy, probably too heavy for belt use. It can be a chore to get the knife out of the sheath as well, but after some use, it seemed to loosen up just a bit. Personally, I would rather have a knife that has an overdone sheath retention system than one that does not, but people are going to complain about this aspect. However, I knew what I was getting into going into this purchase, and it just does not bother me. The good clearly outweighs the bad with the Gerber LMF II.
If I was in a survival situation, I would be very comforted to know that I had the Gerber LMF II by my side. With that said, I would avoid heavy batoning with this knife or be very careful not to hit the handle of the knife while batoning because the knife's handle is rubberized and it will be damaged if you abuse it, but that is the design of the knife. It is not a defect or a flaw of the knife, and it certainly does not reduce the value of this great survival knife. For me, the Gerber LMF II is a great choice for a camping or survival blade. Again, I love the ergos and the grip is just awesome, it cuts and chops like a champ, and it just gives me a confident feeling when I hold it. Moreover, I really like the stainless steel blade of this knife. In a humid and moist climate, this knife is perfect because it won't rust like carbon steel blades.
In short, the Gerber LMF II is a champion of a survival knife that could save your life if used correctly and not abused. People just need to understand that this knife is different than a Becker BK2 which I also love. It just depends on what you're doing. If you are going to do a lot of batoning, the LMF II may not be the best choice, but it can baton. If you are going to do a lot of chopping and utility tasks in wet conditions like I do, the Gerber LMF II is, quite frankly, very tough to beat.
